  • Snell Auditorium, Red Deer Public Library (Downtown Branch)

  • Aboriginal citizens are invited to join civic election candidates in a cultural "talking circle" to learn about local issues by listening to one another's stories. Election candidates will learn more about the Aboriginal culture and respond to the questions and concerns shared by the community.
  • The talking circle is a ceremony that follows a set protocol. The circle is a sacred place we gather based on respect and honesty. It is the place we go to share, learn and grow. It is a place where people share equality and are welcome to speak about their own experience from the heart. Anything that is said in the talking circle stays in that circle. The feather or talking stick is used to ensure that everyone has their chance to say something. This dialogue process is intended to help us move to a more in-depth understanding of election issues and understand our roles within our community.
  • Candidates and community members are encouraged to contact Tanya Schur at the Red Deer Native Friendship Centre for more information: 403-340-0020 or by email: commongroundrdnfs.com
