My name is Lawrence Lee, it has been a privilege and an honour to have been able to serve as a Trustee with Red Deer Public Schools over the past six years.  As well as being a Trustee,  I am currently employed as the Director of Operations for the Doctors Eyecare Network - a national Cooperative of over 230 independently owned Optometrist practices. I also serve as a Director on the Executive of the Public School Boards Association of Alberta; I am a Board member for the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools; and the Vice-President of the Red Deer and District Chinese Community Society.

My wife, Betty, and I have been in Red Deer for most of our lives.  From kindergarten to high school graduation, we have had the privilege of going through the Red Deer Public School system.  This experience  prepared us both for our post secondary education, myself at the University of Alberta and Betty at Red Deer College.  We are also pleased to have both our daughters attending school within the Red Deer Public School District.

PRIORITIES

  • A School Board must be a forum for citizens to express  their opinions and concerns;
  • A School Board knowing the challenges that our schools face locally and prioritizing to overcome obstacles;
  • A School Board democratically elected to represent the values of our community, that allows for consistency in administration of schools within the boundaries of the Board;
  • A School Board that ensures fair representation of students from all curriculums;
  • A School Board continuing a proven track record of successfully balancing district priorities with community priorities;
  • A School Board that assists in making the government accountable for the funding it provides; and
  • A School Board that provides fair remuneration and working conditions for teachers and district staff as well as continually assessing current facilities and efficiencies within the district.

As I believe that local School Boards make a difference in our community, I continually strive to make a difference in our student's education.  If re-elected into the position of School Board Trustee I will continue to focus on how education is delivered locally.  The quality of education in Red Deer can be considered among the best in the province; this is achieved through sound planning, great communication with the community at large, setting appropriate goals, utilizing all available resources and ensuring the integrity of the classroom environment.  In short putting the needs of students first.

Please support my passion to give back to our community through education by voting for LEE on October 18th
